Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 5th, 2022. In today’s article, we’ve got another review from our pal Mikhail. He’s been a busy beaver recently, and his latest thoughts cover Nobody Saves the World. There are a couple of new releases to check out as well, and we’ve got summaries of both. Finally, we’ve got the usual lists of new and expiring sales for you to ponder. A little bit of a light one overall, but such is Wednesday most weeks. Let’s get down to business!
Reviews & Mini-Views
Nobody Saves the World ($24.99)
DrinkBox Studios have released a few games I recommend to many people over the years. While the studio is most known for Guacamelee, Severed is my favorite DrinkBox game and I enjoyed it a lot on iOS and PS Vita. When the studio revealed Nobody Saves the World for PC and Xbox platforms, I was intrigued. After playing it for a bit, I realized how much I was missing a new DrinkBox release and was excited to see how it fared on Switch.
Nobody Saves the World is an action RPG all about transforming into different forms, min-maxing, grinding through dungeons, and saving the world of course. You start out as ‘Nobody’ but slowly unlock a few forms in the early moments of the game which is when the world starts opening up to you. Given the developer’s pedigree, I expected fun core gameplay, but Nobody Saves the World might be the studio’s most polished release yet across its main story and side missions. If you rush through the main story bits without doing a bit of side activities and exploring, expect to take about 17 or 18 hours to finish Nobody Saves the World.
Nobody Saves the World is a very charming game with a great aesthetic, lovely animations, and excellent music. It is also very responsive on Xbox Series X even when things get very busy on screen. I was a bit worried about the performance on Switch, but DrinkBox did a great job in that regard in bringing over its newest release to Nintendo’s hybrid system. Nobody Saves the World runs very well on Switch with its 60fps target and only really suffers slightly with its load times compared to Microsoft’s console. One other change is that some of the 2D portraits and icons are a bit low res when played on Switch both docked and handheld.
With Nobody Saves the World having been released on Switch, PS5, and PS4, the Xbox and PC versions got updated to add in local co-op support. All versions now have local and online co-op support for up to one more player in addition to you. One thing to note right now is that the Switch version crashes when you try to join a game through the menu rather than an invite. This will be fixed according to the developer. The local co-op is playable with a single Joy-Con each as well making the Switch version even better.
Having now played Nobody Saves the World on Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC, I would recommend the Switch version above the others for offering the ability to play at home or on the go with a competent port. The gameplay suits the pickup and play nature of the system as well. I’m going to keep chipping away towards completing every aspect of Nobody Saves the World on Switch, but I can’t imagine this won’t end up being my favorite DrinkBox Studios release so far. I hope it gets a physical release down the line. If you’re looking for a charming action RPG that blends a bit of Zelda and Diablo together with its own signature style, Nobody Saves the World is for you. –Mikhail Madnani

New Releases
Wildcat Gun Machine ($14.99)
A somewhat unambitious take on bullet hell dungeon crawlers like Enter the Gungeon, Wildcat Gun Machine has an impressive arsenal of cool weapons to use on your demonic enemies. The highlight of the game is the ability to commandeer massive mechs, but it’s a treat you’ll rarely get to enjoy. It plays well enough, but there really isn’t a whole lot of depth to chew on here. Maybe that’s what you’re looking for right now, though.
Slap the Rocks ($4.99)
A fairly basic puzzle game where you need to slap the rocks into the holes so you can reach treasure chests. When you hit them, they’ll keep moving until they hit something or fall into a hole. Sometimes you’ll need to slash bushes to remove them in order to get the rocks where you want them. There are thirty levels in total, so this isn’t a terribly long game. If you like puzzle games you may find your five bucks’ worth in it anyway.
Sales
(North American eShop, US Prices)
Nothing too unusual in the list of new sales today, but you may want to grab a few things from the regular bunch if you’re looking to spend some money. Over in the outbox, Ubisoft’s latest sale is finishing up. Most of those games are at least decent, but we’ll see them on sale again within a few weeks. Do what you must, friends.

That’s all for today, friends. Fingers crossed, but it’s looking like tomorrow will not see more games than anyone can deal with dropping on the eShop. More of a svelte dozen than a crushing thirty. We’ll have summaries of everything that arrives, as always. There should also be some sales to check out, and we’ll cover those too. It should be a good time. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
