The Super Mario Bros. Movie Is Starting Off Strong At The Box Office

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has had an impressive opening. According to Deadline, the animated film earned $26.5 million at the box office on Thursday, totaling $58.2 million domestic sales from the movie's first two days in theaters. Adding in international numbers, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has earned $120.7 million so far.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was expected to have a big launch, as reported by Deadline, earning $225 million or more for its first (extended) weekend--Wednesday to Sunday--in theaters. Domestic expectations sat at $125 million--something The Super mario Bros. Movie looks on track to achieve.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie user scores over at GameSpot's sister site Metacritic are also generally positive, hovering around an 8.6/10. Critic reviews, on the other hand, are a bit more of a mixed bag.
